Sometimes something unexpected happens that messes up your plans. That old saying “The best laid plans of mice and men” comes to mind.
Yesterday, an opportunity presented itself that I couldn’t pass up so I didn’t get any writing done for my January blog challenge. At one time, that would have made me feel like the whole thing was a failure and I would have probably given up completely.
But one mis-step doesn’t mean the whole thing is a bust, especially when it meant getting to do something I really wanted to do anyway. It just means I missed one of the thirty days – hardly a blip when it’s all done.
This is the time of the month when a lot of people who make New Years resolutions start to give up on them. They miss a day or two at the gym or eat something that’s not on their new diet and end up throwing in the towel on the whole thing.
If you stumble on the path to changes in your life, don’t let it stop you. Learn from it and move on. Hopefully the next time a similar situation comes up, you’ll be able to recognize it and avoid the problem in the first place.
For me, I’ve changed the way I’m scheduling my day and how I’m coming up with ideas for what I want to write about. That way, if something unexpected does happen again, I’ll hopefully be better prepared to work around it.
